Helping Good Technology Challenge Blackberry’s Reign

Employers face a dilemma when it comes to choosing the right mobile devices for their workforce. Good Technology is able to solve this dilemma and tasked Red with telling its story.

RIM’s BlackBerry has long dominated mobile devices in the enterprise, but the introduction of iPhone, Android and Palm Pre devices has changed the game. Employee desire to use the latest and coolest devices for business has organizations facing a dilemma: how to provide device freedom for users while maintaining control and security.

Good Technology, which makes software to solve this dilemma, challenged Red to tell its story in a compelling way and position the company as the leading threat to RIM’s market dominance.

Good planned to launch new software to enable companies to manage large numbers of non-BlackBerry devices as easily as they would a fleet of BlackBerries. To effectively depict the need for Good’s technology, Red developed a strategy that involved a survey 300 IT decision makers at large companies in the U.S. and U.K.

The report, “The Device Dilemma”, revealed that employees insist on using their favorite mobile devices for work, even if their companies are unable to support and secure them. The report also showed the high demand among corporate users, the number of IT departments that would support alternative devices and the security breaches that result from the use of unauthorized devices for business.

Top tier business and technology trade publications found this research to be highly compelling, and outlets such as BusinessWeek, Forbes, InformationWeek, InfoWorld and Computerworld covered the report.

With media continuing to reference it in articles on smartphone trends, the report positioned Good as a leader in bringing iPhones, Palm Pres, Androids and other device to the enterprise, provided a tool for the salesforce, and help make the case that device choice and freedom is now possible.
