Tasked with making McAfee top of mind with parents concerned with online family safety, Red worked with McAfee to appoint the USA’s first CyberSecurity Mom.
Chicago mom of three, Tracy Mooney, had emerged as one of the stars of McAfee’s S.P.A.M Experiment in which real people were recruited to “consume” spam e-mail for an entire month. As she told us tales of how her teenager had infected the family’s PCs with viruses, along with his other online exploits, it became clear she was the ideal candidate for the job of CyberSecurity Mom.
Tracy’s appointment was announced to the media with in-depth research to show just how worried parents are about their kids going online. TV chat shows were eager to talk to Tracy and hear her experiences.
We also created a dedicated blog for Tracy at McAfee.com (www.mcafee.com/mom), along with a Facebook page and Twitter account. In January she spoke at the Kids@Play summit at CES and she was a big hit at the recent Mom’s 2.0 Summit in Houston.
Since her announcement, more than 167 stories have appeared on regional TV shows, national and regional radio and on parenting blogs and Web sites.
In her role as McAfee’s Cyber Security Mom, Tracy is providing information and advice to concerned parents through her blog and will meet with mothers and leading government bodies on the subject of online safety in schools and communities.
