Improving the lives of people with sickle cell disease

Sickle cell disease is the UK’s most common inherited blood disorder and Red helped The Sickle Cell Society launch a set of standards to improve patient care.

Provision of sickle cell patient care can vary significantly within the NHS so The Sickle Cell Society, sponsored by Novartis Oncology, worked with healthcare professionals and other stakeholders to develop the first Standards of Care for Adults.

Red achieved influential stakeholder recognition of the Standards through parliamentary activity which included a House of Commons reception and a high-level roundtable meeting, both chaired by Liberal Democrat Shadow Secretary of State for Health Norman Lamb MP.

Highly targeted media briefings across ethnic, professional and national media produced a raft of on-message coverage.

Through Red’s campaign, a significant commitment from healthcare providers to improve services for patients was achieved.
