This week saw Red Consultancy help Get Safe Online, the UK’s national internet security awareness initiative, warn about the dangers of ‘social engineering’.
Social engineering is an extremely targeted type of scam where fraudsters manipulate their victims into sharing confidential information. This can happen through fake emails, phone calls, texts or posts, and frequently involves piecing together information from various sources such as social media and intercepted correspondence to appear convincing and trustworthy. Reported figures from the NFIB show incidents have risen by 21% in 12 months.
Get Safe Online’s first ever national campaign urged consumers to ‘Think Twice Before You Act’ in order to prevent people from falling victim to such scams. The advert played across most major locations including Waterloo Station, Charing Cross Station and the iconic Piccadilly Circus signs. Plus the advert’s central character, Gelly, managed to take some time to explore the sights of the big smoke!
Red secured some great coverage in The Mirror, City AM and ITV, as well as an abundance of regional pieces, all helping to position Get Safe Online as THE expert for online security.
